Looking at the area campcraft competition, I'm rather disappointed that all of you did not met the expectations set. Why is this so?
Appreciative souls - Did you all thank the officials/umpires for setting up the lots for you all? Without them, you would not have a chance to participate in the competition. Did you all appreciate your team members despite the differences among all of you? Without them, will you be able to finish the competition?
Indefatigable spirit - did you all pull yourself up when you all face difficulties in the competition or felt tired? Did you all continue to fight on even though you are unable to finish the competition in time?

People, here are the details for your training tomorrow!

Time : 0745 - 1100 (For Cadets), 0745 - 1500 (For NCOs/CLs)

Pt Kit for Secondary 1

Details (IMPORTANT!) :

LCP Test
There will be a (hard) theory test and a drill test (Static Drill) for you guys. Please ensure that all required knowledge is acquired before the start of the parade.

CPL Test (+3rd Class Drill)
There will be a (harder) theory test and a drill test (Baton and WOC) for you guys. Please ensure that all required knowledge is acquired before the start of the parade. On top of that, you are also expected to present your uniform for assessment as well.

SGT Test (+2nd Class Drill)
There will be a (hardest) theory test and a drill test (Arms and WOC) for you guys. Please ensure that all required knowledge is acquired before the start of the parade. Naturally, you are also entitled to uniform assessment (stricter) too. Finally, the top performers will be able to have a chance to go for double promotion! (Meaning to attend SSGT test right after that! So that means be prepared for SSGT as well...)

SSGT Test (+1st Class Drill)
You guys will also have a taste of the (hardest) theory test as well. On top of that, you will be tested on MOI/WOC/Performing Parades (incl. Cane Drill). Uniform assessment (Strictest) will also be included. Please be mentally and physically prepared! Top performers will stand a chance for Station Inspector (SI) nomination!

Information:
- Note that there will be lunch break (for NCOs/CLs only) at around 12. So everyone (incl.cadets) is expected to consume your breakfast before attending the parade.
- (For SSGT) The procedure for performing a parade will be announced TOMORROW to you :)
- There will be a short briefing given again tomorrow morning and training time is very limited. Thus, everyone is expected to know their stuffs tomorrow!
- To avoid discrepancies, the drill test will be conducted in the OLD standard (No change to any new commands)!
- Please pass this information around to your squadmates!

Additional Info:
-With regards to the diet thingy, you should have at least 7 hours (and/or maximum 10 hours) of sleep each day and please measure your own weight and write them on the top right hand corner.
-Those who have not submitted your letter for your absence of the previous trainings, please bring them along.
-Those whom have yet to bring your ball or twine, please do so on Wednesday too.
-A gentle reminder that you need to bring 1.5litre of water bottle along!

Diet Diet Diet Alert!!

Below are the details for the planned diet we are gonna have this upcoming week!

Unlimited/Uncontrolled Food:
-Plain Water! At least 2litre/8 normal cups per day (You are required to drink 500ml/(or 2 normal cups) of it every morning you wake up!)
- Have at least 1 serving of fruit per day! (1x apple/orange/pear/banana/sliced papaya recommended!)
- Try to consume as many (green) vegetables if you can! Loads and loads of it!

Very Limited/Controlled Food:
- Max. 3 Meals of Fastfood meals! (Try to have lesser than 3! Better still none of them! and if u really must eat, try not to upsize! :) )
- Max. 1 bar of chocolates (Note that no sweets or potatoe chips or ice cream is allowed!)
- Max. 1 Supper out of 5 days (Try to have none!)
- Max. 2 cans of 330ml/ 1 bottle of 500ml soft drinks

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
- If at any point of time you are not feeling well, IGNORE the diet immediately!
(Seek me for any advice if necessary! Your life is more important!)
- Try to record the details as precised and accurate as possible! (Integrity is an important virtue!)
- The diet will take effect on 5/12/11 and ends on 9/12/11
- Note that no carbohydrates should be strictly taken after 2100hrs !!
- Do this log in a form of table (on a piece of fullscap paper) and hand it to me on 12/12/11 (Mon). A sample is shown below for your reference. (Follow the format)

Finally your exams are over and we know you can't wait to start training for our campcraft competition next year right!! So let's get our buttocks up before we turn fat fat fat!!! For now, let's prepare for our very first session.

Introduction

1 Thank you for inviting me to your annual parade as the National Police Cadet Corps (NPCC) celebrates its 50th anniversary. At this jubilee anniversary, NPCC can stand proud of its achievements and progress as the largest school uniformed group in Singapore with 155 school units and more than 20,000 members.

The Growth of NPCC

NPCC in its early years

2 NPCC has come a long way. When it first started in 1959, it had only 30 cadets at Bartley Secondary School. Though small, there were important reasons for its setup and even more significant goals it wanted to achieve. In 1959, Singapore had just gained self-government but political strife and racial tensions threatened a nation in the making. The NPCC was set up to allow students of various social, ethnic and religious backgrounds to come together. As they participated in joint activities, it would bring them closer and promote racial and religious understanding and harmony. The NPCC also served to bridge the gap between the people and the Police Force so as to foster better relations and cooperation.

3 The goals of NPCC were noble but to ensure success, NPCC also had to constantly evolve to remain attractive to students. To reach out to more students, new programmes such as outdoor camping, drills, life-saving courses, weapon training, and visits to police stations and establishments were added. These activities, which taught cadets to be responsible, resourceful, and disciplined, were quick to attract the interest of youths. By the end of the first decade, membership had risen to almost 7,000.

A progressive organisation

4 Today, NPCC is of course a much larger organisation but the challenge to remain relevant, forward looking and true to its founding values continues. Where needed, new initiatives must be put into place to respond to changing needs and expectations and to provide more opportunities to develop character, leadership and team spirit amongst its cadets.

5 One such programme is the Police Youth Ambassador (PYA) Programme, which aims to develop cadets’ thinking, communication and collaboration skills. Jointly initiated in 2006 by the NPCC, the Ministry of Education and the Singapore Police Force, the 3-year programme also raises the profile of NPCC youths as Police Ambassadors and fosters close bonding between the Police and NPCC youths.

6 Under the PYA Programme, cadets pick up skills in managing projects and problem-solving as they work closely with the Police and grassroots agencies. They are exposed to real problems affecting the safety and security of schools as well as the local communities. Last year, some NPCC cadets and cadet leaders witnessed on separate occasions a snatch theft and a shop theft. True to the NPCC values, they demonstrated public spiritedness by courageously assisting the Police to arrest the culprits. Their actions are indeed commendable.

7 Programmes like the PYA Programme offer valuable experiences to stretch cadets and will certainly be remembered and treasured as having a powerful impact in their formative school years.

8 The NPCC also introduced the Homefront Security Course to expose cadets to terrorism-related threats. This programme, the PYA and others like Total Defence, Civil Defence and National Education forge into our cadets at a young age, their responsibility to protect Singapore and instil in them a deeper sense of belonging.

9 NPCC’s success would not have been possible without the hard work and support of school principals, teachers, officers, parents and volunteers. Your effort is worthwhile as you see cadets transform into confident, capable and socially conscious young men and women.

10 Today, the NPCC also honours the outstanding achievements of its units. This year, 47 NPCC Units will receive the Gold Award for the 2008 Unit Overall Proficiency Award. Two schools deserve special mention. Maris Stella High School and Marsiling Secondary School have won the Gold Award for ten and five consecutive years respectively. They will be receiving the Unit Excellence Award and Outstanding Achievement Award respectively today for their consistency and dedication towards excellence. My warmest congratulations to the award recipients.

11 The NPCC Annual Parade is also an appropriate occasion when all NPCC members - cadets, cadet leaders, volunteers and officers - come together to renew their commitment to the founding values and goals of the NPCC. This is why you take the NPCC pledge of loyalty and dedication to the nation and the Corps.

Conclusion

12 In conclusion, I wish to commend all Principals, teacher officers, parents and volunteers for your commitment and dedication. Your support and encouragement is needed to help cadets realise their full potential in the Corps. To the cadets: make full use of opportunities during your time with the NPCC to gain knowledge and experience that will prove useful in your later years. I also want congratulate all officers and cadets involved in organising this Annual Parade for a job well done.

13 I am confident that the NPCC will continue its noble cause of “Moulding the Builders of a Safe and Secure Home”. I wish you continued success in your efforts to nurture caring and responsible citizens for Singapore.

Why We Do The Things We Do?

Contrary to popular belief, a lot of things we do in NPCC have good reasons behind them.

Why are logos disallowed on track pants?

Why do you find ourselves polishing your boots hard in front of the television the night before every parade? (I had my time)

Why are you forced to sing songs during runs when you are already so tired out? (Done that too.)

Some NCOs might remember the “Filter” analogy I told once told them about. How knowledge, culture and practices get eroded through the time as the NCO-ship is passed down from one batch to another.
Some of you may find the things we do in the Corps incredulous. Maybe your seniors or even some of your NCOs are also unable to give you a satisfactory answer today. This is the result of that erosion I was talking about.

But do you know the good reason behind the “no-logos” rule with the track pants?

In a squad, there would definitely be some cadets who come from more well-to-do families than the others. It was not uncommon for the parents of these “rich” cadets to lavish their children with luxury goods and branded belongings – think Nike and Adidas track pants; think Swatch and Police watches. What if within your squad, there are cadets whose family even struggle to put food on the table? How would such a cadet feel, if his/her squadmates are dorned in branded track pants and shiny watches?

That is one reason why in NPCC, we preach standardization. Of course, the above example of “struggling to put food on the table” may be a little far-fetched, but nonetheless, I hope you get my point.

At the end of the day, we all realize that your current generation is very much different from ours. Cadets nowadays do not readily accept instructions at whim – you guys will question. Of course, there is nothing wrong with it. In fact it is good, just that it will be harder on your NCOs. (haha.good luck NCOs!)

What I want to say is this: If there is anything we practice in the corps that you cannot understand, or some heart-burning issues you have that are preventing you from sleeping at night; please pose them to your NCOs.
Good if they can help you out, but otherwise if they cannot, please exploit us: the old people that have spent nearly 10 years in NPCC but people cannot figure out why we are still here.
Yes! Ask any CIs or HOs. Emails, blogs, SMSs, facebook etc. I’m sure most of your NCOs/CIs/HO are available.
Once again, contrary to popular belief, we (or rather I) don’t bite.

First and foremost, I would like all cadets and sec 1 and 2 to give feedbacks about this week training, and hope that all of you enjoy... Please give your truthful and honest feedbacks so we can make future parades a better one too...(esp. the birthday celebration and what you would like to include in it. & how would y......ou want it to improve or even whether you want more such events in the future as we NCOs are planning a lot of activities ahead.

Secondly: for attendance, pls make sure you come down for all future training, activities and courses. Only the most 3 parents letter per semester will be entertained. Those who did not attend any training, activities or course, pls fill in the form and also cite with parental letters or medical certificate. Please also make sure your other squadmates is present for most trainings.

Thirdly: As for the attire, we will expect tip top condition from all of us and we will tolerate no excuses for the attire not being in the expected criteria.. Follow the uniform etiquette list that I had pass all of you one month ago... Thus, no excuse for not knowing anything or your attire not in tip top condition. ...In future, we will also not accept that because the day before have training, and we wore the full uniform so we unable to wear it as it is not washed or not prepared.. You had to wear it and prepare by the next day training. If you are unable to wear it or any enquiries (like badge spoilt) please inform your mentor immediately, and yet still bring your full uniform to show us!!!

Next: I would advice all of you to buck up on your drills and other skills that you had learn including camcraft or even songs... Campcraft test for sec one will be coming up soon and also the total defence bronze.. As for BOTH the sec 2 and 1, your promotion test will be up next, and it will mean your shoulders will h...eavier and will be more colourful, and your expectation will also be higher too..
Lastly: As for the expectation we had for all of you will be: follow the ' NO ABCDE' closely and the 'PI-CARD'. We will not tolerate any nonsense or anything including adjustment or talking in squad without permission.. This will be applicable for the sec 1 as it has been more than half a year you are in npcc, and you will be senior too...

Thats all!!! Always respect your NCOs regards of who he or she is, greet them regardless where they are and when you see them... Mutual respect among your squad and even your senior or junior. ALL FOR ONE, ONE FOR ALL!!!

1. Sec1s, for your trackpants, it must be black in colour and there must not be any stripes.
If there is a logo, it should only be about the size of a 50-cent coin.

2. For those wearing spectacles, spectacle hook is compulsory.

3. No ankle socks is allowed when you are in NP Attire (be it pe attire or ptkit)
Shirt must be tucked in at all times.

4. For girls, white hair accessories are not allowed in NP although the school allows us to wear them.

5. For those who didn't go for any trainings/parades, a parent letter or MC is required

6. RESPECT YOUR SUPERIORS.
